The trial starts in the Murcia provincial court this week of five youngsters charged with the murder of 18 year old Óscar Orenes, a teenager who was brutally stabbed in Alcantarilla just under two and a half years ago as he was returning home from a birthday celebration for his cousin. His elder brother Francisco was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to hospital with 7 stab wounds to his body.

The brothers had stopped for a last drink in a local bar when an argument erupted with two brothers they had grown up with in the same area of the town. La Opinión de Murcia said the fight also involved the other brothers’ cousin, and although initially brought under control by security guards at the bar, escalated when the two accused phoned another two cousins to come to their help.

All five could now spend 23 years in prison for Óscar’s murder and the attempted murder of his brother.
