Empty cargo ship runs aground in Algeciras
An empty Panamanian registered cargo ship, the 105 metre ‘Rhea’ has run aground in recent storms on a beach in Algeciras.
The vessel run aground on the El Rinconcillo beach on Wednesday night after dragging her anchor from the Algeciras port in high winds. She had arrived there on Tuesday afternoon from Ceuta.
The high waves at the time stopped tugs from getting lines aboard her. The coastguard vessel ‘Luz de Mar’ is on hand to try and refloat her.
