Heavy rain brings flooding on the Canaries
Heavy rain has brought flooding and power cuts to Tenerife today, with the forecast of even more cloudbursts in the area this afternoon. Already rainfall of 75 litres per square metre has been collected. AEMET, the Spanish Metrological Agency has placed the islands on Orange Alert.
Classes have been cancelled on El Hierro and La Palma as 30 litres of rain fell within a single hour. Winds of 70-80 km/hour are also hitting the Canaries, and rough seas are forecast in particular for the south of Tenerife, La Gomera and the west of El Hierro.
