A warning to all Basque lorry drivers

A lorry driver has been fined 4,601 € for driving his vehicle through Jaén with a tachograph configured in the Basque language, Euskera.

He was stopped by the Guardia Civil in Jaén last September 15, and asked for his tachograph discs, so his speed and rest times could be inspected. He presented them correctly but because his machine was configured in Euskera the order of the Day/Month/Year was Year/Month/Day and the Guardia Civil thought this could be the result of falsification.

In the event the fine stands as the law fines any modification of the official model, and El País reports that the Junta de Andalucía has now rejected the drivers appeal against the fine.
