Penélope Cruz turns down Lars von Trier
Penélope Cruz has turned down the offer to film with the Danish director, Lars von Trier, who is co-directing what is described as an experimental film, ‘Melancholia’ with Martin Scorsese.
The problem is one of dates as the Spanish actress has already committed to the filming in Hawaii during July of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean IV – On stranger tides’. The film producer wants Cruz to take fencing classes however before filming.
Cruz is apparently an admirer of Von Trier and his ‘dogma’ movement, and talks between the two have been underway for some two years. Those who have read the script are reported to say they can’t see anyone else but Penélope Cruz in the role, but Von Trier has also committed to premier the movie at Cannes next year.
