Spain Football Results - Monday March 1 2010
Kun Agüero led Atlético de Madrid to a 4-1 win over Valencia to give the side dreams of a Champions League place. David Silva put Valencia head, Forlán equalised with a penalty, after Marchena was sent off, and then Kun Agüero scored the decisive goal when he was injured. Forlán and Jurado sealed the result in the last minutes.
Barcelona were almost held to a draw at home by Málaga but scored in the dying minutes of the match for a 2-1 win. Barça were playing a 4-2-3-1 system which have Leo Messi more chance to shine and more movement on the pitch. Pep Guardiola insisted however that the essence of Barcelona would always be attack.
It means they stay top of the table, two points ahead of Real Madrid who also won and where Higuaín saw a return to form. He scored two of the goals in the 5-1 away thrashing of Tenerife.
Sevilla slipped up at home against Athletic in a goalless match although they were left with just ten after Ndri Romaric was sent off at the start of the second half.
FIFA could take six points of Espanyol because they owe the French side Girondins a million and a half € for the transfer of Albeti Riera in the year 2005. Espanyol have just a few days left to pay.
