Spanish civil servants to work in the British Consulates in Málaga and Alicante
Chris Bryant, British Minister for Europe, was at the British Consulate in Málaga on Sunday to announce that a Spanish civil servant is to join the consul offices in both Málaga and Alicante.
He explained that the Spanish civil servant will be paid by the Spanish Government, and have the brief to help foreigners with their problems in Spain in areas such as health and residency.
Particular attention will be given to town planning and property problems currently faced by some foreign residents.
Chris Bryant told us that meetings are on-going also with Albox Town Hall and the Junta de Andalucía regarding the threat of demolition of some British owned homes in the Almería town. Individual meetings with those affected are to take place over forthcoming days to try and find ‘a legal solution’.
Juan Espadas said that in Cártama, Málaga where other demolitions are threatened, he is working with the Town Hall to identify the cases where there are sentences issued and how they can be regulated in the PGOU urban plan.
The British Ambassador to Spain, Giles Paxman, was also present at the meeting in Málaga on Sunday, along with the Spanish Secretary of State for Territorial Cooperation, Gaspar Zarrías and the Councillor for Housing from the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Espadas.
The Spanish civil servants will take their places in both consulates within a month.
