La Gomera airport to be the first in Spain to do away with air traffic controllers
The airport on the Canary Island of La Gomera is to become the first in Spain to operate with no air traffic controllers. The controllers will be replaced from July 29 by five AFIS people who will provide an airdrome information service.
Binter is the only regular airline which operates into La Gomera, and for now they will not be charged for the new service which will eventually be priced at 300,000 € a year.
It’s still a 550,000 € saving from under the controllers.
Secretary of State for Transport, Concepción Gutiérrez said that prices will fall 15% more over the next two years.
The Airport Director, Javier Martín, said that the new team were ‘accredited and competent' people, who had received full training.
