The Mayor of El Ejido, Almería, Juan Enciso, has returned to the Town Hall after being held on remand in prison for eight months for his alleged implication in the Caso Poniente corruption case in the town.

He announced that he would continue to serve as Mayor of the town, and the people or El Ejido are the only ones who could get rid of him. The ex PP Mayor now represents the local PAL group, and all groups in the Town Hall called for his immediate resignation as Mayor on Wednesday.

‘I’m not going to resign as I have done nothing’, he said.

Enciso said he would also stand for re-election next year, as he was welcomed with kisses and hugs by his supporters.

Local businessman, José Amate and the ex Municipal auditor, José Alemán, remain in prison.
The case summary alleges that money defrauded from the Town Hall was sent to accounts in Costa Rica.
