Spanish National Police have issued advice to youngsters to not reveal on social networking sites such as Facebook when they are going on holiday.

Police are concerned that thieves are monitoring the internet to establish when properties are empty.

In a whole series of recommendations of what to do before going away on holiday, the police say that all windows and doors should be closed, the bell should not be disconnected and a hidden key outside should never be left in place.

They suggest that valuable items such as car keys, documents, cheque books, credit cards and passwords for online banking be removed, and say that householders should make a list of the serial numbers of electrical appliances.

For those still with doubts, the police have issued a video (in Spanish) below.
