The Palma Arena corruption case is continuing on Mallorca with the ex President of the Baleares, Jaume Matas, presenting 3 million € bail to stay out of prison.

The judge has split the case into 25 different parts, one of them linked to the awarding of tenders in 2007 for the construction by the architect Santiago Calatrava, of the new Palacio de la Ópera in Palma.

Judge José Castro said he had split the case up in order to make the investigations easier. He claims that it was Matas who arranged the opera product which cost 1.2 million €, but could not in the event publicise it as it fell just before the elections.

Investigations into alleged back-handers regarding projects on the island, including the Palma arena, continue.
