Ex Mayor of San Javier arrested for corruption
The Ex Partido Popular Mayor of San Javier, José Hernández, and another three people have been arrested for corruption.
The four are accused of bribery, influence peddling, crimes against Hacienda, and the misuse of public funds among other charges.
José Hernández and the real estate promoter, Santiago Martínez Esparza, have already been called to declare on town planning irregularities in 2006, when land for the construction of the district hospital was allegedly exchanged for town planning ‘favours’.
The other two now arrested are named with the initials J.V.N.A. and A.J.S.R.
It’s understood that investigations into this case started in 2008 following a complaint from the Prosecutors’ Office, and an earlier six arrest were made in December 2008, including three architects, two of whom were also municipal workers in San Javier and Fuente Álamo.
The Murcia High Court of Justice reports that Guardia Civil agents made the arrests on Tuesday morning, and that seven homes belonging to individuals and professionals were searched in Murcia, Cartagena and San Javier.
