The Supreme Court has reduced the sentence against, 45 year old Javier Rodrigo de Santos, the ex Partido Popular Catholic activist from Palma de Mallorca, who has been found guilty on four counts of sexually abusing minors. His original sentence of 13 years has been reduced to five as it is not clear if the sex with underage boys was consensual or not.

He is also serving another two year sentence for political corruption following the mis-spending of 52,000 € of council funds when he used the council credit card to pay for his expenses in the gay clubs of Palma.

The father of five brought forward witnesses and testimony from the Church and church activists in his parish as part of his defence.

Meanwhile in a separate case the ex General Secretary of the Unió Mallorquina, UM, party, Tomeu Vicens, has been sentenced to three and half years in prison and given a 13 year ban from office. He was found guilty of the misuse of 12,000 € of public funds linked to a charge of perversion of the course of justice, and is also linked to four other corruption cases in the UM.
