Confusion over the arrest of the PP leader in Alicante
The Partido Popular has criticised the way in which the party’s head of the provincial Diputación Government in Alicante, José Joaquín Ripoll, was arrested on Tuesday this week, describing the events as being for publicity and politics.
It came after it was revealed on Wednesday by the High Court of Justice in Valencia that they did not order the arrest.
Ripoll told the press that the Police arrived at his home with a judicial secretary while he was still in his pyjamas, and told him that he will be called to declare today, Thursday at 2pm.
During Tuesday 11 arrests were made in total and 19 searches carried out in Alicante, Orihuela and Valencia.
PP spokesman González Pons said the arrests had been ordered by the Ministry for the Interior, while Leire Pajín for the Government called on the PP leader, Mariano Rajoy, to stop hiding and ‘act in consequence’.
For his part José Joaquín Ripoll told the press on Wednesday that nobody had told him what he was accused of, and he denied reports that any money had been found in his house or office by the police.
Promising ‘maximum collaboration’ in the case he is known to have spoken to both Mariano Rajoy in Madrid and Francisco Camps in Valencia on Wednesday.
