60% of the Spanish family spend goes on the children
An international study carried out in the Valencia region, the first of its type, has revealed Spanish children to be ‘super-consumers’, with as much as 60% of the family shop being for them.
It’s one of the conclusions of the report from the Toy Technological Institute, AIJU, and the Valencian Institute for Small and Medium sized Industry, IMPIVA.
The study also concludes that ‘not all girls are princesses who love pink, and that not all boys love football’.
The report, entitled ‘The New Generation’ was presented on Tuesday, and notes that children today are attracted to new technologies at an ever earlier age, given the existence of computers for babies and lap-tops for children. But AIJU says that this needs to be combined with other things to ensure that the children have a quality of life, are more active, more health and more relaxed.
The study says they need to be more aware of their environment, have fun, but at the same time in a way which allows for an improvement in their self-esteem.
Parallel studies were carried out on children aged 4 - 12 with other bodies in Germany, England, Holland, France, Portugal and Italy, as well as in the United States over the past two years.
