The 16th edition of the Benicàssim music festival gets underway on Thursday, with the bands, Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz, Vampire Weekend, The Prodigy and Kasabian top of the bill. Also playing are Ray Davies and the Specials.

The Spanish bands include Triángulo de Amor Bizarro, Cuchillo, Love of Lesbian and Illegales, among others.

This year however the event has been scaled down, with 120,000 spectators expected compared to last year’s 200,000, but despite that there are still some season tickets on sale. Last year they had all sold out two months beforehand.

The event is now run in its entirety by the Irish promoter, Vince Power. He said that this year’s line up is one of the best currently on the European continent, and that those who go to Benicássim always want to return.
