Catral couple lose their home as neighbour starts bonfire
An unauthorised bonfire, prohibited in summer months, is thought to have been the cause of a spectacular fire which completely burned down a family home in Catral on Sunday.
The owners, a married couple aged 65 and 70 had to flee the building without saving any possessions or any of the four cars which were parked outside.
It’s thought that is was a 70 year old neighbour who started the bonfire, and who could therefore now face paying the costs of moving three town's fire crews and even a fire-fighting helicopter which was scrambled to the scene from Mutxamel.
Firefighters were at the scene for some four hours, but could not save the property.
