Small fire leads to the evacuation of the Ritz Madrid
A small fire has cut power and water to the Ritz Hotel in Madrid this morning, and the 150 guests have had to be moved to other hotels in the capital.
Taxis were called from 0630 this morning to take guests, room by room to other accommodation.
The fire reportedly started in a frying pan in the kitchen, which set light to an extractor hood, and was quickly put out by the hotel staff and there were no injuries. The fire services were only needed later for smoke control.
For some reason the emergency lights also failed to work in the power cut.
