Metro workers vote to accept provisional wage deal
An assembly of morning shift workers from the Madrid Metro has today, Monday, provisionally ratified the deal reached between management and unions on Saturday, and called off further strike action. 70% voted in favour of accepting the deal.
The principle of an agreement reached by both sides is a 1% wage cut for workers, instead of the 5% originally envisaged, with the shortfall to be made up in savings from other areas. The wage cut is back-dated to this month’s wages.
Training, a night-time restructuring, overtime and other extras are set to be cut as a result.
A vote will take place among the night shift workers at 6pm to confirm that the next strike, planned for Tuesday until Friday this week, will finally be called off.
