Search for missing hiker in the Mijas sierra
Members of the Guardia Civil, fire-fighters Infoca, Civil Protection, local police, Red Cross and other volunteers are searching the Sierra de Mijas today, Saturday for a 32 year old local man who has vanished when out walking.
Juan Antonio Gómez Alarcón has been missing since last Tuesday when he set off on a hike at 9am in an area he is reported to know well. He often himself acts as a guide for others in the sierras.
He did not take a mobile phone, knowing he would be in many areas where there is no coverage, and was expected back on Wednesday or Thursday.
The authorities were alerted on Friday.
The search is being coordinated by the Guardia Civil barracks at Osunillas in Mijas, and the Guardia Civil has brought in a helicopter to help.
