A security lock down on Mallorca over the weekend proved effective in capturing the Alejandro de Abarca, the 35 year old man known as El Enano, The Dwarf, in connection with the murder of a 25 year old Romanian woman.

The burnt body of Ana Niculai was last Monday in the boot of her car in S’Albufera de Muro, in the north of the island.

The 1m50 tall suspect was arrested after being seen on Sunday afternoon by a member of the public close to Búger, and the security forces closed in on the area, to arrest him in a wooded area close to the Selva sewage plant.

He has been arrested at least ten times for various crimes over the past decade, and was on a weekend permission from the CIS integration centre in Palma the previous weekend when the crime was committed.

The victim ran a bar in Palma and is thought to have been kidnapped at the door to an apartment and, according to the autopsy, was beaten to death. The suspect is then alleged to have crossed the island, put the body in the space for the spare wheel and then set the Audi 4 alight. Earlier he had been seen at a petrol station buying drums of petrol.

After his arrest he declined to declare to the Guardia Civil.
