20 counterfeiters arrested in Murcia and Alicante
National Police have arrested 20 people in the provinces of Murcia and Alicante in connection with counterfeit money and credit cards. The value of the fraud has been estimated at 300,000 € according to sources at Murcia police.
Those arrested appeared in court last Saturday after being detained on Wednesday last week. 10 of those arrested are from Cameroon, three are Spanish, three Nigerian, Two from Equatorial Guinea, and one each from Gambia and the Ivory Coast
Investigations started four months ago and were carried out by the UDYCO specialist crime unit of the police in Alicante.
Most of their victims were solvent Spanish businessmen who were conned into accepting what they thought were wads of cash from sons of African ministers.
The group also duplicated credit cards of tourists in hotels in Nigeria, whicvh they then fraudulently used in shops in Alicante, Valencia, Murcia, Almería, Lérida and Sevilla.
Two of the gang bosses were based in San Vicente del Raspeig where a top of the range car worth 8,500 € was impounded. Other arrests took place in Murcia, La Algaba, Sevilla and in Benidorm.
Those arrested will appear in court in Alicante, San Vicence del Raspeig and Murcia.
