Alberto Contador leaves the Astaná team
Alberto Contador, the now three times winner of the Tour de France has announced he is leaving the Astaná team, with the rider from Pinto, Madrid saying he will not be renewing his contract for 2011. He has been with them for three years.
It appears Astaná gave him an ultimatum demanding a definitive answer by Tuesday for him to renew his contract.
The rider’s press chief said he would now be calmly looking at the offers he receives for forthcoming seasons.
Earlier this week the rider announced that he would not be taking part in this year’s Vuelta de España, much to the disappointment of the organisers. The 65th edition of the race will be held between August 28 and September 19.
