British patrol chases drug trafficker into La Linea
A Royal Navy patrol from Gibraltar arrived close to the Spanish shoreline in La Linea on Sunday as it was chasing drug trafficker on a powerful jet ski launch. The British came up to the San Bernardo beach in the town as they followed the trafficker who was finally arrested on Spanish soil by the Guardia Civil and Local Police.
Spanish media report that the arrested man was carrying several bags of hashish, although the weight has not been released.
PP Deputy, José Ignacio Landaluce, noted that the British patrol invaded Spanish territory, but saw no hostility from the Spanish agents, something which he said was not the case when the Spanish had cause to enter the waters around the Rock. He said that a clear protocol of action was needed to take account of events such as that seen on Sunday in La Linea.
