Alex Michaelides was born in Cyprus, and at 18 moved to the UK to study English at Trinity College, Cambridge. He then went to film school in LA and got his MA in Screenwriting at the American Film Institute. He wrote the film ‘Devil You Know’ starring Rosamund Pike, and co-wrote ‘The Con is On’ starring Uma Thurman and Tim Roth. Disillusioned with screenwriting, he moved back to the UK and took a job at a therapeutic community for teenagers in North London. He then wrote the internationally bestselling ‘The Silent Patient’ which went on to be a record-breaker, debuting at No1 on the New York Times bestseller list, the first adult UK debut ever to do so.
