Habaneras starts its Christmas campaign with the shopping centre’s traditional “charity long weekend” plus a Christmas workshop led by IKEA.


The centre will be hosting initiatives such as “United for Africa”, in conjunction with local NGOs, and the exhibition “The Most Important Thing” by ACNUR.

Once again, Habaneras Shopping Centre, managed by JLL (real estate consultancy firm), is showing its support for the people who need it the most. Now that the Christmas campaign is now well and truly underway, after the Christmas lights were switched on last week at an event featuring young rhythmic gymnasts from the Jennifer Colino Club, the centre is now keen to promote a range of activities to encourage people to support charities.

With this campaign, Habaneras is asking us to get involved in major projects being developed across various countries in Africa, Central America and Asia. On 1 and 2 December, with the “United for Africa” initiative, artists and local NGOs will be joining forces to raise awareness on a number of initiatives and to raise funds and aid for work being done in the Sahara, Rwanda, Uganda, Mozambique, Cameroon, Dominican Republic and India, through Associations like F.A.N. and Nueva Hermandad.

As well as this, from 3 to 7 December, and in conjunction with ACNUR (Spanish acronym of the agency UNHCR), the shopping centre is due to host a photography exhibition entitled “The Most Important Thing”, featuring work by Brian Sokol. The show highlights the difficult situation of refugees who, just before leaving their homes, have had to make tough decisions about which items they should take with them before going in search of a better life. This exhibition tries to convey the harsh reality experienced by millions of refugees across the world, who have been forced to abandon their homes and flee. The event is also part of the #SOYUNLOCODEACNUR campaign that will be publicised during the exhibition, which is housed inside a marquee in the Habaneras central plaza.

All these activities will be complemented with a solidarity point set up by Habaneras for collecting toys, food and clothing to donate to local NGOs. Plus, Habaneras also wants to encourage its customers to show their solidarity by holding a prize draw for two double tickets to see the Film Symphony Orchestra on Saturday 15 December at 7.30 pm in Torrevieja’s International Auditorium.

Lastly, and as part of the Christmas campaign, Habaneras and IKEA are working together once again to decorate the 12 Christmas trees arranged all over the shopping centre and to organise a special workshop on Saturday 8 December, where we’ll be showing how to decorate the table for this special festive season. Morning sessions will start at 12 noon and afternoon sessions will start at 5 pm.
