Quirónsalud Torrevieja brings in a New Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine Team

Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja adds a new Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine team to its services. The team will be coordinated by renowned physicians José Salvadorand José Antonio Robles, specialists with ample experience in the field of plastic surgery and in the introduction of the newest cutting-edge techniques, with over 15,000 treatments performed.

In Spain, around 400,000 aesthetic surgery interventions are performed each year, according to data from the Sociedad Española de Cirugía Plástica, Reparadora y Estética [Spanish Association for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery]. 83% of these interventions are requested by women, and 17% by men, though, as Doctor Salvador, Plastic Surgeon at Quirónsalud Torrevieja, points out, “we have been experienced a higher demand for this type of intervention from men in the past few years, since barely three years ago, they did not account for even 12%.”

The increase in this type of surgeries that we have seen in the past decade has been motivated mainly by the development of new techniques, that are less invasive and safer for the patient, as well as better qualification on the part of specialists. Regarding the latter point, Doctor José Salvador advises verifying that out surgeon is certified as a specialist in this type of surgeries, by recurring to official associations such as, in this case, the SECPRE [Spanish acronym for the Spanish Association for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery], before undergoing any kind of intervention. As for the elements that make aesthetic surgeries increasingly safer, the specialist notes “a growing use of local anaesthesia or sedation, with which we avoid the risks of using anaesthetic products; greater quality and control of prosthesis and fillers; and finally the introduction of the latest generation of laser, with more effective and safer results.”

Notwithstanding the type of surgery the patient will undergo, he or she must always submit to different tests to check his or her health before the operation. “The performance of a blood test, an electrocardiogram and a heart examination is essential if we want to undergo an intervention with every safety guarantee,” warns Doctor Salvador.

The Importance of Looking Good to Feel Better

The specialists at Quirónsalud Torrevieja highlight the importance of feeling good about our personal image, and how it affects our physical and mental health. “In addition to greatly increasing the self-esteem of patients, it influences the people in their own environment, provides them emotional equilibrium, and has repercussions on their physical well-being,” explains Doctor Salvador.

As for the parts of the body people request to change the most, among women it is the breasts, with breast enlargement surgery taking first place, followed by liposuction and breast elevation and reduction. For men, the most requested intervention is not all that different, since it is the elimination of gynaecomastia (enlargement of the mammary gland), followed by liposuction and rhinoplasty.

The time of the year these interventions are most in demand are the months before the summer season, with three out of every ten interventions happening during this period. According to Doctor Salvador, “the desire to show off a great body in the summer and the impossibility of sunbathing or swimming after these operations, make these months the most adequate to have them performed.”
