Howard had several holidays in Spain before he decided to leave Thatcher’s Britain in 1985.  When a student in Portsmouth he started his broadcasting experience presenting a variety of talk and music shows on Radio Victory, under the guidance of Paul Brown, who went on to head the IBA, as it was then called.

Once in Spain he was introduced to the owner of Nerja Spanish Radio, Alfredo Alcazar, and he started the first programmes in English between 7 and 8 am and 3-4pm when the Spaniards were either still in bed or sleeping the siesta.  The programmes were a great success so shortly afterwards, Coastline Radio was born as first 24 hour English Radio Station in Spain.  Later Howard moved to OCI in Marbella and when the station was threatened with closure decided to concentrate on his internet business  www.typicallyspanish.com. But radio is in the blood and now Howard is happily broadcasting on Talk Radio Europe doing the news, presenting ‘Living your life in Spain’ between 3 and 4 weekdays and the long running Radio in Black and White, Sundays at 10am.

I have been involved in Radio in Spain since 1998. Prior to this I was enticed to Spain by my work in video production but soon after this,  I spent a year running a beach concession at Las Dunas. That was a fabulous time and soon after that, I got back into radio after many years away from the medium, with Spectrum FM. In 2004 I moved to a new operation in San Pedro based at La Colonia centre to design and commission the now TRE Talk Radio Europe station system.

Before coming to Spain, was very much involved in Radio Production from the early 70s so go back a “long way”! Radio has always been in my blood. From the Radio Pirates of the late 60s to today`s highly technical systems; it´s been a long learning curve. What is important though is the people and I have always  aspired to provide the best. I have a big interest in movies and film in general, as I do with all kinds of music.

This I fortunately get to produce and present with my Moves and U show and the Album Hour shows. Allan Tee Other credits:  Producer for London Advertisers in the 70s  and Capital Radio Director of Radio Training and Production for Roger Squire Ltd Journalist for Video Industry Publications in the 80s and Film critic and reviewer for Regional Press in the same decade. Radio presenter and producer for Hereward Radio, Chiltern Radio.

He has also worked extensively as a translator and interpreter for organisations such as the Institute for Economic Affairs in the UK, The Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute in the US and the Fundación para el Análisis y los Estudios Sociales in Spain. Consummately bilingual, he has translated books by, among others, former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar and Peruvian Nobel Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa. An avid traveller, he has visited nearly three dozen countries in the past three years alone, providing his listeners with a unique personal insight into some of the key issues confronting the world today.

Europe Today is broadcast live every weekday at noon from our studio in Cologne, within easy reach of the EU’s key institutions in Brussels, Strasbourg and Frankfurt. The programme provides up to the minute breaking news from Europe and beyond as well as analysis of the motivations behind some of the most important stories in the world today. By referencing multiple sources and airing the opinions of a wide range of conflicting views, Europe Today aims to go beyond the traditional Western perspective of other mainstream media outlets.

This research is complemented by a spectrum of correspondents and associates on location whenever and wherever a story breaks. Despite its name, Europe Today is not just about Europe. Rather, it provides listeners with a rounded view of the whole world from a European perspective, often covering important stories that its competitors have missed and explaining frequently complex issues in easy to understand plain English. I sometimes wonder where the time has gone, born 17th believe how long ago that is!) I have lived in Spain since 1998 and my wife, Pen, and I have adopted the same laid-back approach as the locals. We live in the pueblo of Gaucin in the Serrania de Ronda where we hold an annual music and performing arts festival ‘Hoggstock’ at our riverside finca.

Our kids grew up here and we have made a lot of friends and employ local people. My Spanish dream was to arrange tours into the wilds of Spain on mountain bikes, but you fall back into what you know and what I know is tree surgery, having done this previously in Canada, California and England. Since 1998 I have been plying the Costa with The A Team (that’s what we call ourselves – ‘El Equipo A’), climbing, pruning and sometimes felling palms, pines and eucaluptus trees.

I am also a singer with the 9 piece rock cabaret Biagra. So in answer to the question “Are you a tree surgeon?” “I am, but I am also an hotelier (In 2009, we opened Dar Gabriel, a boutique hotel in Chefchaouen, Morocco), actor, singer, event organiser, American Truck enthusiast, mountain biker, bull terrier aficionado and radio presenter (I began broadcasting ‘George and The Hogg’s Saturday magazine show with Phil George, on Talk Radio Europe in September 2013).

No wonder I’m exhausted! It must be my age!

“What was that?”
“That was your life mate“

Rons love of radio and music came together for the first time at TRE, as previously he was a broadcasting virgin, but he now sees how all of his previous work experience was leading up to this point. Music on the radio has bossed his life since 1955 and broadcasting is the final item on his bucket list.

Ron trained to teach junior school children at the now defunct institution which is a teachers training college in Liverpool, just around the corner from John Lennon’s House and Penny Lane. He then went on to teach in the city centre for 12 years and the leafy suburbs for 9 years. He ran a mobile disco formed cavern city tours, who now own and run The Cavern and Ron was a DJ booker and compere there for 10 years which was a life changing experience and for him and a dream fulfilled. Moving to Spain in 94, Ron was engaged as entertainment manager in a hotel complex in Calahonda Malaga until it failed to show profit! He then went back to teaching as head of the infant / junior department in Calpe College San Pedro, where he waited for 10 years to move across the road to TRE. During which time he taught pupils privately and continued doing mobile DJ work for his increasingly wrinkly fan base.

Quote by Ron Jones, ‘No one told me at school I’d have to wait till I was retired to be fulfilled and do something I love. The genial TRE staff have welcomed the new boy with understanding and tact.”

I’m very lucky to combine my twin loves of radio and music. I’ve been in radio for the last few years. My first production job was helping Hannah prepare her Saturday show. I gained some on-air experience with Barry Mitchell on his breakfast show.

I produced and co-presented the Energy FM Breakfast Show, learning a lot from the bosses about how not to run a radio station. I was a producer and presenter at Spectrum FM for two years, learning a lot more. I worked in the management and marketing of the station as well and my hair started turning grey. I became a producer at TRE in the summer of 2012. I’ve produced Wake Up With Hannah since it started last October, making Hannah a nice cup of black coffee (one sugar) and doing bits and pieces on air.

After 10am I run the production department. I’m really fortunate to work with such a great team at TRE: broadcasters, producers, sales and support staff. I also dj at weddings and parties on the Costa del Sol. It’s a privilege to work with many different nationalities and an excuse to listen to a lot of music.

Back in 1981 Ireland had many “pirate” radio stations as legislation to regulate and licence the industry did not come along until 1988. The first of the new radio stations commenced broadcasting in 1989.

Between 1981 and 1988 Ger worked for various stations in Limerick and Galway. One of the first of the new radio stations to come on air in 1989 was Clare FM, based in Ennis. Ger was part of that, in fact he was the first voice on air at the station. Ger spent 4 years with Clare FM on Breakfast until he moved in August 1993 to Limerick 95 after being head-hunted.

Ger returned to Clare FM in 1999 to present a nightly programme and was back on Breakfast from January 2000. His stint with Clare FM lasted until July 2002. At that point he took a break from radio as he had a young family and he wanted to explore other business interests that came along.

Julie is Talk Radio Europe’s UK based representative. Born in London, she spent her early years in Australia, before (reluctantly) returning to the UK. A BA in Social Science (Economics major) at University of Westminster (…when it was Polytechnic of Central London) preceded a career in sales and marketing – including West End retail management (Sears PLC), Account Manager (GUS PLC), Contract Sales Manager (William Baird PLC) and Brand Manager (Adidas group).

She spent 5 years in Spain, joining TRE in June 2009, before family commitments brought her back to the UK. Since her return she has been actively employed in developing the TRE brand with the UK multiples and other blue chip companies. A keen sportswoman, in the past (lacrosse, netball, tennis, swimming, ski-ing, scuba diving, and karting) – these days sports activities are more armchair related!

Passions? Arsenal FC, McLaren F1, tennis, rugby, politics, reading…and music (of course!)
