Police are probing the deaths of an Irish couple discovered “semi-naked” at a property in Torrevieja. Officers made the find just after 10am yesterday following reports from a worried neighbour.
The man had sustained a head wound whilst the woman, reportedly still breathing when first responders arrived passing away moments later, had injuries to her torso and limbs. Regional media suggest preliminary forensic analysis indicates the male victim died approximately a week earlier.
Authorities have yet to issue any formal statement but are anticipated to do so later today. A source revealed last night that police suspect the man may have died from natural causes, whilst the woman was unable to seek help independently.
Neither victim has been identified and their names aren’t expected to be made public.
Organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest are meeting today to tackle a bitter and divisive issue: Whether Israel should be allowed to participate in next years competition.
The European Broadcasting Union is holding a general assembly, with some countries calling for Israel to be excluded over alleged interference in contest voting and its conduct of the war against Hamas in Gaza.
Experts predict delegates won’t reach a united position on the issue in Geneva and it’s not clear whether a vote will be called. That would mean broadcasters may have to decide whether to take part.
Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain are among the countries that have threatened to sit out the contest if Israel is allowed to take part.
Members have until mid-December to confirm their participation next year, and a final list will be announced by Christmas.
The government will seek to keep a Spaniard on the executive board at the European Central Bank where the race for top jobs will kick off next year so Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo said yesterday.
Four of the six jobs on the ECB’s executive board will become vacant by the end of 2027, beginning with Vice President Luis de Guindos, whose term ends in May.
Speculation around Spain’s chances to fill future vacant roles at the ECB resurfaced after Cuerpo withdrew from the race to become Eurogroup president last week.
The Health Ministry and the health departments of the 17 autonomous regional governments have approved a protocol against influenza, COVID and other respiratory illnesses.
“We approved a Common Protocol the Health Minister Monica Garcia wrote on social media yesterday.
The protocol includes teleworking, masks, vaccination, and ventilation measures against the diseases.
Teleworking or masks in healthcare centers “save lives,” said Garcia, adding: “We said it was necessary and possible.
