Spain has been left out of the international summit convened by the British government to address the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. At the moment, it remains unclear whether the government didn’t receive an invitation or decided to decline it.
The meeting yesterday bought together representatives from 35 countries to discuss restoring freedom of navigation in a critical maritime shipping lane. According to sources, the meeting was held virtually.. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper coordinated it, as part of joint efforts led by the UK and France to reopen the passage blocked by Iran.
The summit’s composition largely reflects the countries that signed the joint statement issued on 19 March by an international coalition condemning Iran’s attacks on unarmed commercial vessels and energy infrastructure in the Gulf.
Among the countries that endorsed that declaration were the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japa and Canada, in addition to a long list of European, Asian and Middle Eastern partners that joined later. Spain, however, is not among the signatories.
A fuel fraud investigation across Almería, Alicante, and Murcia has uncovered a criminal network accused of stealing company identities, securing diesel fuel and equipment without paying, and then reselling it below market price for profit. The Guardia Civil says 15 people have been arrested so far and 18,000 litres of diesel have been recovered in an operation linked to losses of some €200,000.

The operation also involved inspections at 20 shops in Tenerife and La Palma. Police say the network was linked to the sale and distribution of products imitating registered brands.
The scale of the seizure, the specialist equipment and the spread across more than one island point to a business model rather than a casual sideline.
An expert in trademarks and industrial property certified that the seized products were fake. Among the goods were clothing, handbags, wallets and belts.
